EDIT THE SECOND: Right, just in case you don't get this...
As you see, Sonic has tried to escape the zone by any means neccessary, but with no luck. He tries one one more time, but as soon as he tries, the ground breaks away in front of him. Kind of like bashing Sonic 2006, because the speed factor was out of control, and you had a hard time staying alive sometimes
Also, if you ever played the Genesis Sonic Games, you'd know that Sonic cannot jump once he falls off a cliff, A shame :'<

You probably figured out that he's tried everything to escape. He decides to try one more time, when suddenly the floor breaks away. Sonic manages to stop in time, but is leaning over the edge. Then, he falls in. Plus, he doesn't know that he can do midair jumps
